User Agreement

1The basics

• You must be 18 or over. If you are under 18, do not use Freeshop. We close under-18 accounts and delete their data.
• Everything on Freeshop is free. Never ask for, offer or accept money, payment, tips, "delivery fees" or anything of value for an item.
• One person, one account, with truthful information.

2Posting a listing (Givers)

When you publish a listing you agree that:

• the item is yours to give away;
• the title, description and photos are honest and show the item's real condition, including defects and safety issues;
• the photos are of the actual item and were taken by you or with permission;
• the item is not on the prohibited list in the Terms of Use — in particular no food or consumables, no alcohol/tobacco/vapes, no medicines or drugs, no weapons, nothing stolen, counterfeit, recalled or unsafe, no animals, no adult content;
• you will mark the listing as taken (confirm) once the item has been collected, and remove listings that are no longer available.

3Responding to a listing (Receivers)

When you respond to a listing you agree to:

• respond only if you genuinely intend to collect the item;
• turn up at the agreed time and place, or cancel in good time;
• not hoard responses to multiple identical items you don't need, and not collect items in bulk for resale. Reselling items obtained on Freeshop for profit is against the spirit of the platform and is prohibited.

4Confirmations and meeting safely

• An exchange is agreed when the Giver confirms a Receiver's response in the app.
• Arrange hand-over yourselves. We recommend meeting in a public place in daylight, sharing only the information needed (not your full address until you're comfortable), and checking the item before accepting it.
• Freeshop never asks for your password, bank details or payment — anyone who does is a scammer; report them.

5Respectful conduct

You must not:

• harass, threaten, insult or discriminate against anyone;
• post hate speech, extremist content, or sexually explicit material;
• spam, advertise commercial services, or post misleading or fraudulent listings;
• collect, scrape or publish other users' personal data;
• attempt to manipulate karma (fake accounts, fake confirmations, coordinated feedback);
• interfere with the app's operation or attempt to bypass moderation or bans.

6Karma

Your karma reflects completed exchanges and community feedback. It rises when you complete exchanges reliably and falls for confirmed no-shows, rule breaches and upheld reports. Karma is an indicative trust signal, not a guarantee. Attempting to game karma is itself a breach of these rules.

7Reporting

If you see a listing or profile that breaks these rules or the law — illegal items, scams, harassment, a user who appears to be under 18 — use the Report button. Reports are confidential: the reported user is not told who reported them. Do not abuse the report function with false or retaliatory reports.

8Moderation, sanctions and appeals

• We review reports and may remove content, issue warnings, reduce karma, suspend or permanently ban accounts. We aim to act on reports within 48 hours and will act expeditiously on illegal content.
• Serious illegal activity (e.g. offering weapons or drugs) may be reported to the police or other authorities, and we may preserve related records as required by law.
• If you believe a moderation decision was wrong, you can appeal within 14 days by emailing freeshopappuk@gmail.com (or contacting us in the app) with your username and the listing concerned. A human will review the decision.

9Your responsibility

You are entirely responsible for the content you post and for your exchanges with other users. Freeshop does not inspect items and is not a party to any exchange — see the Terms of Use for full disclaimers and liability limits.

10Changes

We may update these community rules from time to time and will notify you of material changes in the app. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated rules.
